Make sure, before you comment on this one, you read part 1!
I used to keep kosher. I was a Chassidic Jew, and I used the standard ChK kashrus as my hecksher.
To do that, I had to have two refrigerators – a small one (“Apartment size”) for meat, and the larger one for pareve and dairy.
I had three sets of dishes – meat, milchig (dairy) and Pesach (passover). The Pesach dishes were all sealed off for most of the year, and only brought out for a little over a week – then put right back.
I had meat pans, dairy pans… silverware with different colored handles to differentiate between meat and dairy.
All the meat I ate was at LEAST Glatt kosher, but preferably ChK. And that was far too loose for my Chabad Rabbi, who got on me about “You need to stay in hecksher!” It was killed according to Jewish law, the blood covered over by dirt or straw and dirt combined, based upon the practice of the shochet (butcher). Jewish prayers were said before it was done, and the shochet had knives that were so sharp that they can take off a finger and you wouldn’t know it.
Then I left my Judaism, and gave my life to Jesus Christ because, well, he’s the Messiah. He died so that I can live. and when He rose from the grave, I rose with him.
Messianic Jews like to say, they eat kosher. They have one set of dishes, unless they’re in a higher income bracket, and can afford finer dishes. They don’t differentiate between meat and dairy.
3 Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing. 4 These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat, 5 The hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the wild ox, and the chamois. 6 And every beast that parteth the hoof, and cleaveth the cleft into two claws, and cheweth the cud among the beasts, that ye shall eat. 7 Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof; as the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you. 8 And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase. 9 These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat: 10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you. 11 Of all clean birds ye shall eat. 12 But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray, 13 And the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after his kind, 14 And every raven after his kind, 15 And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind, 16 The little owl, and the great owl, and the swan, 17 And the pelican, and the gier eagle, and the cormorant, 18 And the stork, and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat. 19 And every creeping thing that flieth is unclean unto you: they shall not be eaten. 20 But of all clean fowls ye may eat. 21 Ye shall not eat of any thing that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother’s milk. Deuteronomy 14:3-21 (KJV)
There it is. “You shall not seethe a kid in his mother’s milk.” Prove to me that the cheese on your burger did not come from the calf’s mother. It is the UTMOST of cruelty in the eyes of God to take the offspring of an animal, and boil it in the very substance that is supposed to nurture that infant to life.
That’s why Jews refuse to eat any dairy and meat together. It’s in your Bible, in a section on kashrus.
You claim you keep kosher, and all Christians need to keep the law to keep from losing their salvation. And then… you don’t keep it either!
1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, 2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat: 3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. 4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, Matthew 23:1-5 (KJV)
As I pointed out last time, very often Messianics will avoid outright pork… but will eat food products that may have pork products in them. A quick glance at the ingredients. “Nope! No pork.” but sometimes trace elements of pork or pork lard are used in “natural flavorings”. Look at the ingredients on a bag of pork rinds some time. It doesn’t mention pork at all in it. I guarantee there’s some in it.
They are not careful at all about what products are on one plate, and then other products on it. Last time I put up verses showing that, if you’re going to claim to keep the law, you have to pay strict attention to what touches your plates. There are detailed laws in Leviticus about “if something unclean touches something, then it is unclean.” Go ahead, read the first eleven chapters. You’re in for a rude shock.
There’s detailed verses on this. And Messianics don’t care. As long as they’re not sitting down to a meal of outright pork, that’s fine. Turkey pepperoni is okay. Except pork fat is used as an ingredient, under the label “natural flavorings.” Oops. And then you’re putting it on a cheese pizza.
My point is simple… Messianics have NO CLUE what it means to keep the law. I’ve challenged it before. Live ONE YEAR truly Torah Observant… and you will FINALLY understand the Law.
3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. Galatians 5:3-4 (KJV)
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. Galatians 3:24-25 (KJV)
21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. Galatians 2:21 (KJV)
16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Galatians 2:16 (KJV)
Read these words carefully…
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (KJV)
“Should not perish, but have EVERLASTING life.”
You cannot lose your salvation – it’s not yours to lose. You have died to the law. Keeping kosher will not get you merit points in heaven.
