I am truly sorry Billy Graham has passed from this world. I of course am sorry for his family, who is no doubt mourning his passing.
But I feel no need to canonize him the way all Christianity seems to be doing.
Most Christians seem never to have noticed Billy Graham was far more comfortable associating with theological liberals, Roman Catholics and Christ deniers throughout his ministry.
I have extreme questions about anyone – ANYONE who would rather associate with a Christ-denier than a Fundamentalist – and ask them to open one of my “crusades” with “prayer”. They don’t believe in Jesus Christ, so who or what are they praying to???
In 1966, Billy Graham stated belief in the virgin birth was not an essential doctrine.
Whoa. The year I turned two, Billy Graham was stating he didn’t believe in the Virgin Birth.
This was a major reason when my old church voted to support financially one of Billy Graham’s employees because Graham wasn’t paying him enough, I answered “Abstain”. I couldn’t vote against it, because that would be opposing my pastor (when you are functioning as an associate pastor, you can’t oppose your pastor publicly). But my conscious wouldn’t let me support anyone who worked for a Christ denier.
Graham stated Adam may have been an ape-man.
“And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” (Genesis 3:10, KJV)
This is the talking of an ape man? If there was any such things as “ape men”, shouldn’t this have been… “Grunt, grunt”?
I’m sad to say that before most of you were born, Billy Graham denied Christ, and the Bible. You cannot deny the virgin birth, and still claim faith in Jesus Christ. It doesn’t work. You can’t claim Jesus Christ was a sinful man, and then turn around and claim He paid the price for your sins. If Jesus Christ was just a man, then His death would have paid for nothing.
Graham said he agreed with Pope John Paul II on “Nearly everything.” This means Graham believed in salvation by works.
You cannot say you believe in evolution and still literally believe the Bible.
What are we to think about a man who denied a literal belief in the Bible, associated with Christ deniers, heretics, false teachers and leaders of a heretical false religion, denied Christ himself, and admitted to believing in Baptismal regeneration?
Evangelist Sam Gipp claims Billy Graham is the man who ruined American Christianity. There may be a lot of truth to that bombastic claim.
I’m sorry Billy Graham is dead. I’m sorry for his family. But I refuse to canonize him.
