James 16

It’s the 1st of July! Yes! That means… the summer is thankfully almost over. Man, I absolutely hate the heat. I used to like it when I was a kid. But i grew up in New England, where a hot summer was maybe eighty degrees. And days in June were commonly in the 60’s.

I’ll settle for temperatures in the 60’s. For those people who think global warming is real, you know you can check on historical temperatures. It’s the same temperature ranges in New England right now as when I was a kid.

“For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.” (James 3:16–18, KJV)

After this, we only have two chapters of James left! We continue on from yesterday. Yesterday we had two checklists – what do I need that I may not have? and what do I have that I do not need?

The second category produces confusion and every evil work. Really, tame your tongue, make sure you’re adding meekness, wisdom, a godly lifestyle, and godly works. Bless, and curse not.

And your life will improve. Give in to your fleshly nature, and things spiral out of control. These are laws set into effect for the Christian. They affect unsaved persons as well, but they mostly apply to believers.

Envy and strife are clear indicators that one’s so-called wisdom is not from above (cf. 1:17), but is earthly, unspiritual (“natural, sensual,” psychikē), and of the devil (“demonic,” daimoniōdēs). Envy and selfish ambition, or rivalry, can only produce disorder, or confusion, and every evil practice. A truly wise person does not seek glory or gain; he is gracious and giving.

I’ve got a lot to work on. how about you?

Seminary graduate with a Ba. in Theology/Pastoral Studies, Happily married, Independent Baptist. I can't keep silent about what I see going on in Christianity any longer! Apostasy reigns around us, churches are sliding into worldiness, a whitewashed Gospel is preached everywhere... "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. Jeremiah 6:16 (KJV) So, I'm speaking out. ...Why aren't you???
