“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren.” (James 1:13–16, KJV)
Here’s the good news – you all don’t need me to explain this part! This seems to be one of those verses that the Holy Spirit gives you understanding of on the first reading!
If you are tempted or put to the test, God allows it – but He’s not the author of it. It’s you, or Satan. One of the lessons of Job is that Satan very often is behind it – but in some cases, you may find Satan protesting innocence and the Lord actually agreeing!
We all know certain endeavors, situations, places lead to certain behaviours. If you have a weakness in one area, don’t try to linger in that area, or engage in that activity. It’s like an alcoholic wandering past a nightclub or a bar over and over again, or stopping in “just to talk to a friend”. You already know how that’s going to turn out.
And you can’t blame Satan. If you have a weakness in an area, try praying that God remove that weakness! Let me be so bold as to say the reason most of us never can ditch besetting sins is that – we’re in love with them. we treasure them.
Just pray about them, get rid of them, and move on!
And finally pass test # 1,324,621!
