Finishing up this verse today.
“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” (Hebrews 1:3, KJV)
Sat down on the right hand of God the Father.
To sit at God’s right hand, you have to be…
no human being ever can hope or aspire to sit next to God. If you think Mary’s in that seat, you’re sadly confused. Mary was a nice girl, but in no way does she have the authority, power or right to sit next to God.
Jesus Christ is wholly God and Wholly man. When we define the man part of Jesus Christ (“The son of Man”), we learn He is utterly without sin. Tempted in all things just as we are, but faithful, just and righteous. Jesus Christ never sinned. Just like the spotless, unblemished offering for sin.
We also know from Isaiah that Jesus Christ was from the beginning the Son of God. He did not become the son of God… he aways was the Son of God. “Unto us a son is given.” This doctrine is known as the eternal sonship.
“I will declare the decree: The LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; This day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, And I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, And the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; Thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” (Psalm 2:7–9, KJV)
SON OF GOD Term used to express the deity of Jesus of Nazareth as the one, unique Son of God.
David S. Dockery, “Son of God,” ed. Chad Brand et al., Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2003), 1516.
It’s very hard to find ANYTHING on this doctrine. I literally just spent 20 minutes reading through every entry in my library on this, and all the Bible dictionaries deny this doctrine! Not too surprisingly, you’re not going to be able to ask the authors of those articles why they didn’t accept it, unless you get to travel to the lake of fire and shout in. I don’t know if they’ll be able to answer you or not.
If God the Son emptied himself (the Kenosis) while He was still walking the earth, then we know he’s God the Son. He is not some human being who just got “elected” God. That’s a heresy known as Arianism, or semi-arianism. Anything that denies the divinity of Jesus Christ is a heresy – and surprising numbers of Bible teachers indeed are Arianist.
How can I prove this from the Bible? Easy. You just read it. If man is a little lower than the angels, and if no angel could measure up to Jesus Christ, then we know that He is divine, he is God. He is not God only in the sense he always agrees with God (I’ve had someone say that to me!). He is not God because he’s only God’s message to the world. That’s lame and weak, and literally something I read in one of my Bible dictionaries. That’s Arianistic. it’s a heresy. You cannot be saved and believe it.
A study on the person of Jesus Christ really would help to illustrate this. Let’s just some up that if He existed in the beginning and created all things, he’s not created. The firstborn of creation means the heir of all creation. Protos means first and tokos culturally meant the designated heir.
Literallly, Jesus Christ will rule as KIng for all eternity. He will have an under-king, King David who will rule over Israel. The Twelve apostles will rule the twelve tribes under King David. But Jesus Christ will rule all creation.
That isn’t just given over to some dude just because he kept the law correctly, like the messianics say!
to rule over everything in the name of God is a right that belongs only to God. And since the Bible says Jesus Christ was in the beginning with God and is God, that He created all things, that he is the heir, that his right is to rule, that he is everlasting God, the prince of peace…
He’s God. Jury is in, there’s the verdict.
