A Biblical Examination of Pentacostalism 2

Yesterday we talked about speaking in tongues. The way we dealt with it will satisfy Fundamentalists, who are used to analyzing things from the Bible. It won’t satisfy one Pentacostalist out there, so I’m going to explain this for another three days or so, then quit and go to something else.

Pentacostal Objection #1 – You say tongues will cease. But the same verse says knowledge will vanish, and I still know things.

Answer – Explained that yesterday, you either didn’t make it that far, or didn’t like what I said. It’s not going to change things at all.

The word knowledge there is γνῶσις Gnosis, to know. Their are other Greek words for knowledge, and they continue straight through to the Enternity. Greek words and English words are not the same – it is a series of sounds that connect to a concept, and Koine Greek is astoundingly precise. I can use the words “Recognize” “Understand”, “Know” and each is a different word for a different concept, but in a similar grouping or construct. The WORDS are different, but the concepts similar.

One Greek word for knowledge is Oida, which can be found in Rev. 21:22. Note the word Knowledge is not used there, because the translators of the King James were astoundingly learned men. They understood rules of Greek that aren’t even TAUGHT anymore!.

So, will knowledge pass away? No.

But word of knowledge will. and already has, and that’s what 1 Cor. 13:8 is speaking of.

Any Pentacostal who tries to tell me there’s no such thing as “word of knowledge”, brother, I’m not buying it. You all use it whenever someone claims to know everything about you. It’s not working.

If you don’t believe me, let me ask YOU a question…

Do you REALLY believe that when the New Heavens and the New Earth are created, there is no sun, no temple, no moon, no darkness…

…that you’re going to be lying around, drooling? “Duhhhhh….”

What does that mean to you that you won’t have knowledge??? You just won’t know anything anymore? Like someone with an overly enthusiastic lobotomy?

Obviously not.

The Bible says tongues will cease.

And they did.

Apostasy reigns around us, churches are sliding into worldiness, a whitewashed Gospel is preached everywhere... "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. Jeremiah 6:16 (KJV) So, I'm speaking out. ...Why aren't you???
