This one’s a short one… As I pointed out yesterday, the levels and degrees to which one rejects the Trinity in Messianic Judaism basically runs the entire gamut. And as I pointed out, not EVERY Messianic denies Christ. A lot of them do…
Since Messianic Judaism calls every part of Christianity into question, including “what is canon and what is not”… one area that is targeted pretty heavily by some is… the Trinity, and the deity of Christ.
Yesterday I did a gloss article on the Deity of Christ, because literally I could talk for days on that subject. The first thing I did is denounce the “Memra'” tactic. If you have never studied Aramaic in an academic setting, then don’t quote what you don’t understand.
The Holy Spirit remains kind of an afterthought of Messianics… They mostly accept it, but somehow ignore the subject. “Well uh, the Ruach Ha’kodesh is, uh…”
Let me fill it in for you… God.
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Genesis 1:1-2 (KJV)
I kind of never bought it back in Judaism when I’d read Joseph Telushkin and people like that try to stretch logic to fit a preconceived conclusion (“there’s no Trinity…”), instead of taking the Bible at what it says literally. The Spirit of God is… God the Spirit.
Yay, that was easy, wasn’t it?
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. 7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. 8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. 9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. 10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. 11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. Acts 5:1-11 (KJV)
Read that in context. “But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost…. thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.”
The Bible says the Holy Spirit is God.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: Matthew 3:16 (KJV)
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. John 3:5 (KJV)
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24 (KJV)
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14 (KJV)
It’s that simple! Why deny Him?
