I can’t emphasize enough how simple the whole thing is.
Have you ever been wrong?
Ray Comfort’s got some simple tests he does to show how people can easily get confused and give the wrong answer. His classic one is, “Spell the word stop.” “s t o p.” “what do you do at a green light?” “stop.” “No, green light.” “oh.”
I’ve seen him do it over and over again.
Everyone’s been wrong about something.
Me, I set up my code of honor when I was 18, and decided I would never violate that. I was unable to go very long without violating it. I was unwilling to admit I violated it time and again, but I finally had to face the fact I had violated my own code of honor. It took 18 months for me to admit it.
Now, that’s with a man made, invented code of honor.
If I can’t keep my own code of honor, what about the laws of God?
1 And God spake all these words, saying, 2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:1-3 (KJV)
How’s that working out for you so far? Have you ever placed anything as being more important in your life than God?
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Exodus 20:4-6 (KJV)
Have you ever worshipped any other God? Have you regarded the things of nature as being more important than God?
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Exodus 20:7 (KJV)
Have you ever used the Lord’s name or title as a curse word? This is so prevalent in today’s society, it’s even present in the choruses of today’s songs.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 20:8-11 (KJV)
There you go. Did you keep the Sabbath day unto the Lord, doing no manner of work thereon? Careful lest you boast – I’ve already analyzed several sabbath keeping cults and quickly demolished their claims they keep the Sabbath. Jews are experts at keeping the Sabbath, and even the most experienced will tell you they’ve accidentally done something forbidden on the Sabbath.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 13 Thou shalt not kill. Exodus 20:12-13 (KJV)
Okay, tell the truth now – you’re failing miserably aren’t you?
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. Exodus 20:14 (KJV)
The Lord Jesus Christ says to even loook at someone with lust in your heart is adultery. I can tell you that this one alone is enough to condemn everyone.
15 Thou shalt not steal. Exodus 20:15 (KJV)
Ever take anything that did not belong to you? I asked a pizza delivery guy once how many pens he loses, and he just laughed. People always take his pen to sign for their pizza, and then keep the pen. Ever take someone’s pen? Ever steal a piece of candy from a store when you were a kid? Take a magazine from a doctor’s waiting room?
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Exodus 20:16 (KJV)
Ever tell a lie?
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s. Exodus 20:17 (KJV)
Ever want something someone else has? I can tell you, I’ve done that. Everyone has. I can remember getting a once in a lifetime deal on a car, and when I parked it in my driveway, I quickly found I could not keep the neighborhood kids from running their hands along it. And those were KIDS!!! What did the parents think??? Well, probably the same thing I thought when I pulled into the dealership in my old car.
Those are the ten commandments. Those are God’s laws. How’d you do?
Pretty badly, huh? Well, here’s the facts – breaking even one of them only once is enough to send you to Hell forever. I couldn’t even keep my simple code of honor, and I’m thinking I can earn my way to a heaven I didn’t even believe in?
The sad thing is, there is a Hell. It was not intended for mankind. But when we rebelled in the Garden of Eden, we chose sides. We chose to sin. And thus, we destined ourselves for Hell, along with the rebellious angels.
Don’t believe in Hell? Oh, yes you do. Deep down inside, you’re feeling the twinge of nerves, the fear that you may be wrong and the Bible is right.
Hell is forever. It will last for eternity, unceasing. It will be horrible. There will be no end to the torment. 108 people die a minute, and my statistics have shown that the average is only two of those are saved. Two people every minute wake in heaven, statistically.
Over 220,000 people a day awaken in eternal torment, a torment that will have no end. You cannot see, as it is blackness. The flames are agonizing. It is described as being in a lake of fire. Can you imagine superheated lava, boiling and seething, as billions tumble together in agony? The screams, the begging, the wailing, the cries of outrage and anger, the regret? Someone faliling their burning limbs against you, crashing their agonized arm against yours as it burns? The tears, the sobbing, as you understand YOU ARE NOT LEAVING THERE. You will be there forever.
“god, why did you put me here?” Someone cries out over and over again.
But there’s an answer.
God didn’t put you there. You chose to be there.
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23 (KJV)
God made an escape route. God doesn’t want you to suffer in a place meant for Satan and his rebellious angels.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 (KJV)
God knew there was no way for you to save yourself. No way to keep even your own code of honor, let alone His.
So He came Himself to this earth, and took your punishment in your place. So that you wouldn’t have to.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. Romans 5:8-9 (KJV)
He suffered and died on the cross, and rose from the dead.
Well, what do you have to do to be saved? One million good deeds? Give $5,000 to charity? Work in a soup kitchen once a week? Labor 20 hours a week for God?
Nope. simpler than that.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. John 3:18-19 (KJV)
If you want to be saved, you need to repent. Repentance is a change of thought leading to a change of actions.
Realize you cannot save yourself.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV)
Believe that Jesus Christ can and will save you, if you will but ask.
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Romans 10:8-11 (KJV)
That’s the Gospel. That’s the Good News. salvation is that easy. You’ll know it happened because your entire thought process and actions will change. You won’t be the same person you were beforehand.
Why? You are now getting the mind of Christ. You’ve been saved.
What next? Get to a good, Bible believing church, one that obeys the Bible. Get yourself a King James Bible and begin reading it daily. Your pastor will help you to begin growing as a Christian.
But what if you reject this?
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3 (KJV)
What’s the only way to get into the kingdom of God? To be born again.
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 (KJV)
According to the Bible, is there any other way to be saved, anyone else who can save you?
If you reject the Lord Jesus Christ, where does the Bible say you will go?
15 The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken. 16 The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah. 17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. Psalm 9:15-17 (KJV)
Have a nice day.
