Messianic Judaism Answered 22 Galatians 5

I’ll never understand why in Independent Baptist-dom, there is this incredible move away from studying Greek and Hebrew at a Bible Believing Seminary. Really.

Because when it is done by men with a love for God’s word, you end up realizing that the King James Bible remains the best translation for English Speaking people, and that the modern perversions are heresy, usually from a Christ-denying standpoint.

It also allows you to stand comfortable and confident when you prepare to face cults who make demands based upon translation issues, such as Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Messianic Jews.

Probably some messianics have been offended that several times I have referred to them as a cult. Again, I’m going to state that not all Messianics are Torah keeping, holy Name, Sabbatarian Two House cultists. From what I’ve researched, these are overwhelmingly in the majority, and believers in salvation by grace through faith is by far the minority.

Dan Juster of the MJMI disagrees with me, claiming that’s only the Messianics on the Internet. Okay, very possibly a valid complaint. But am I to believe that of the 1,000 messianic congregations on the internet, there are 9,000 messianic congregations that simply do not bother to be on the internet? Listen, there are people who buy toothpaste on the internet! I simply find it hard to believe Juster’s complaint that the majority of Messianics do not believe in Torah observance.

13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:13-16 (KJV)

The spirit of the Messianics very cultlike, as you move farther and farther into it, moving from “may keep the commandments” to “should keep” to “must keep.” And yet, as I showed in the beginning, many messianics congratulate themselves on Torah observance – when in reality they’re only keeping about a half a dozen commandments, and usually in a half hearted manner. what’s the hit list of Messianic Torah?

  1. Don’t keep Christmas (this is not a commandment under the law)
  2. wear a yarmulke in the synagogue (this is not a commandment under the law – and if one really was Torah observant, you’d wear it at all times unless in bed)
  3. don’t work on Sabbath (but they feel free to spend money, go out to eat, drive their cars, carry burdens in and out on the sabbath = all violations of the law)
  4. celebrate the feast days (again, not keeping the sabbath, and very often, reinventing the holidays to suit themselves)
  5. don’t eat pork or shellfish and call it kosher (but they eat unschected meat, not caring if it was cut or cooked in or on the same machines or surfaces that pork or shellfish had touched)
  6. wear a tallis
  7. put a mezuzah on their doors

I’d swear there’s another 600 or so commandments. And as you can see, they’re very inconsistent about the Torah. But many begin moving past this. Here’s a warning, as strong as I can make it – if you proceed farther into being an observant Jew (or Gentile trying to be a Jew…) you’re only about 18 to 24 months from denying Christ and converting to Judaism.

notice from Galatians how all those issues are addressed? That’s because the church at Galacia was involved in all the same issues.

17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Galatians 5:17-18 (KJV)

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Romans 8:9 (KJV)

Comparing the two verses, it is very possible that if you’re keeping the Torah, you have not the holy spirit. If you have not the Holy Spirit, you are not saved. That’s a little frightening.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:19-26 (KJV)

This is the issues, according to the Bible! Paul has three times questioned the salvation of the Galatians.

That’s a very serious warning Messianics should heed.

Apostasy reigns around us, churches are sliding into worldiness, a whitewashed Gospel is preached everywhere...
