Mormonism Answered 13

Some questions, as we resume our examination of Mormonism…

….and please remember, at no time have I bashed Mormons, but rather, the false doctrines that the LDS “church” pushes at you.

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23 (KJV)

Is sin addressed in Mormonism? Yes. But punishment for sins is, well, usually whitewashed, or some kind of temporal setback. At worst, a Mormon that sins, refuses to be consecrated in holy marriage at the Temple, refuses to try for a Temple recommend, and lives a life of disobedience will not become a god.

Now, I’ve dealt with the whole god thing at length, and had surprisingly no comments or refutation of my logic, or even my citing of Scripture that the Mormon doctrines of pantheism contradicts the Bible. And I’ll return to that. But today, lets look at the concepts of being redeemed from sin, bought with a price, salvation, etc.

Mormonism does not have the concept of Salvation. That right there is an issue, as the Bible speaks of it. To Mormons, EVERYONE is saved, but only Mormons become “gods”.

That’s a major problem, as the Lord spoke in words that made it clear FEW are saved.

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:15-16 (KJV)

50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace. Luke 7:50 (KJV)

If Jesus’s death saved EVERY man, as Mormonism maintains, then why did her faith save her? What about those who refuse to believe, as in Mark 16:16? What happens to them?

This is the uncomfortable question – if the saved go to Heaven, and you must believe and have faith in Jesus Christ to be saved, what about those that refuse?

12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. Luke 8:12 (KJV)

23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, 24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. 27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. 28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. Luke 13:23-28 (KJV)

So if some are thrust out, if some reject it, then where do they go? If only the saved enter into Heaven?

35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: 36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. 37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. 38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, 41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. 42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. Luke 18:35-42 (KJV)

Saved him from WHAT???

9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. John 10:9 (KJV)

So, we’ve looked at Saved, and asked a couple of questions… let’s look at Born Again.

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3 (KJV)

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:14-15 (KJV)

You have to have faith in Jesus Christ to be saved. You must be born again. Are Mormons born again? Is the Gospel preached in Mormon services, an altar call, a call to repent of sins and be saved? I’m not talking about Exaltation, but about Salvation.

Or is it taught that “You’re already saved, but if you want the added bonus of being a god…”

It makes no sense, because Universalism is condemned in the Book of Mormon – or am I reading it wrong???

8 And he said unto me: Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor seen. And many years pass away before he shall manifest himself in the flesh; wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole. (Enos 1:8)

25 And the Lord said unto me: Marvel not that all mankind, yea, men and women, all nations, kindreds, tongues and people, must be born again; yea, born of God, changed from their carnal and fallen state, to a state of righteousness, being redeemed of God, becoming his sons and daughters; 26 And thus they become new creatures; and unless they do this, they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God. 27 I say unto you, unless this be the case, they must be cast off; and this I know, because I was like to be cast off. 28 Nevertheless, after wading through much tribulation, repenting nigh unto death, the Lord in mercy hath seen fit to snatch me out of an everlasting burning, and I am born of God. (Mosiah 27:25–28)

The Book of Mormon teaches about Hell! The Book of Mormon teaches ye must be born again!

Not surprisingly, because when Joseph Smith was writing the Book of Mormon, he was consulting the King James Bible. It’s amazing that if his story of the golden plates and reformed egyptian is supposed to be true, he has snippets of quotations, entire verses and even large sections lifted straight from the King James Bible word for word!

“all mankind must be born again…” is pretty much saying exactly the same thing as John 3:3.

“see? That proves the Book of Mormon is holy Scripture!”

Uh… no… because my blog says the same thing as the Bible. And my blog is simply the work of a seminary student sitting on his sofa with a cup of warm coffee and a cat on his lap. My blog says the same thing as the Bible, and imy blog is not Scripture!

15 And it came to pass that after Aaron had expounded these things unto him, the king said: What shall I do that I may have this eternal life of which thou hast spoken? Yea, what shall I do that I may be born of God, having this wicked spirit rooted out of my breast, and receive his Spirit, that I may be filled with joy, that I may not be cast off at the last day? Behold, said he, I will give up all that I possess, yea, I will forsake my kingdom, that I may receive this great joy. 16 But Aaron said unto him: If thou desirest this thing, if thou wilt bow down before God, yea, if thou wilt repent of all thy sins, and will bow down before God, and call on his name in faith, believing that ye shall receive, then shalt thou receive the hope which thou desirest. (Alma 22:15–16)

So, here’s the question… are you born again?

Now for the next question… which Jesus did you pray to?

Let’s look at the Jesus of Mormonism…

The Mormon Jesus is the older brother of Satan (which makes Satan a god, by the way, and not an Angel – the Bible says that Satan is an angel), and Jesus is merely one of the numerous sons of Elohim (The Bible says that Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of God). The Mormon Jesus began the work of salvation through his death, and Mormons can achieve exaltation to one of three heavens through baptism and obedience (The Jesus Christ of the Bible paid for our sins “once for all”, according to the Bible – Jesus Christ cried out, it is finished!).

If you prayed to the false Jesus of Mormonism, you aren’t born again. You aren’t saved. I’ve demonstrated the vast difference between the Mormon Jesus and the Biblical Jesus.

And here’s the worst part… Mormons teach that Hell is… well…. Purgatory. You go there to pay for your sins, and are released eventually.

That’s not what the Bible teaches!

43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. Mark 9:43-44 (KJV)

That sounds kind of permanent.

11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:11-15 (KJV)

That means you and me, if we don’t get born again! A false god cannot save you. Only the Jesus Christ of the Bible can save you!

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 (KJV)

Apostasy reigns around us, churches are sliding into worldiness, a whitewashed Gospel is preached everywhere...
