Mormonism Answered 2

What is Mormonism?

Mormonism is the name of a religion that claims to be Christian. The religion was invented by Joseph Smith in 1820, after going into the woods at 15 (14 according to CARM) to pray about which denomination was right. He was given the answer by a personal appearance of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who both told him NONE of them were right.

We’re going to come back to this point, most assuredly.

Supposedly in 1823 Joseph Smith was told about golden plates by the angel Moroni that were hidden nearby, and that he’d been chosen to translate them. Yes, we’re coming back to this point as well, stay tuned.

On September 22, 1827, Smith finally found the plates, and dug them up. The translation process began, and was completed and published in 1830.

I don’t know about you, but this raises a lot of questions for me.

First question – Why didn’t the Lord give Smith the plates in 1820? Why did he have to go digging for them? If anything, The next question would be, why did Moroni not just say, “They’re right here” and hand them to him?

Forgive the question, but this is how the thing sounds to me: Joseph Smith came up with a pirate treasure story, which is not too much of a problem to believe, as he was raised searching for buried treasures by his father.

The pirate story evolved into a pirate ghost. The Ghost told him where to find the treasure, and, being a ghost, was unable to retrieve it.

Then Smith became convicted on religion, but instead made himself out to be a SOMEBODY. He then had God and Jesus appear to him. I dunno, if it’d been me I’d have asked about the plates right then. Well, back to the original story.. being a ghost, he couldn’t give the treasure to Smith. Now the story evolves to Moroni being an Angel, who can’t pick the treasure up… well, yes, if he was an Angel, most assuredly he could pick it up.

I know I’m conjecturing here, but I’ve already raised several questions. Let me put them in a numbered list, so we can keep a tally…

  1. Why didn’t the Lord just give him the golden plates?
  2. Why didn’t the Lord at least show him where the plates were?
  3. Why did it take years for Moroni to appear and tell him about the plates?
  4. Why didn’t the angel Moroni tell him and show him exactly where the plates were?
  5. Why did Moroni just give him the plates right then?

We have another question – Angels are created beings, not human beings. Human Beings do not become angels. So, how did Moroni, son of Mormon, become an Angel? he was a living man who died. He had to be created as an angel to be an angel. Humans remain humans, but await their physical bodies in heaven.

The Mormon church does answer one point, by saying that Joseph Smith was required to make yearly trips to the same location, to prove his worth. Wait, wasn’t this the very guy whom God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to? I think if he was so amazingly worthy for God the Father to appear to – which never happened to anyone else – then he most definittely was worthy to hold some silly gold plates.

The “first appearance” doctrine sounds amazingly reminiscent of the Transfiguration story, but retold with Smith as Christ and God the Father and Jesus Christ demoted to Elijah and Moses.

I’d have been very reluctant to make that claim. That would bother me a VERY great deal!

We really haven’t even gotten to the meat of the Mormon doctrines, but I’ve asked some uncomfortable questions. What’s REALLY bothering me is – why isn’t anyone else asking these questions???

Apostasy reigns around us, churches are sliding into worldiness, a whitewashed Gospel is preached everywhere... "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. Jeremiah 6:16 (KJV) So, I'm speaking out. ...Why aren't you???

  1. What happened to not bashing?

    Q. Why didn’t the Lord just give him the golden plates?
    A. Why didn’t God just give Moses the Tabernacle and the Ark of the Covenant? Questioning God is never a good idea. However, the reason is simple. Joseph Smith was 14. He needed some time to grow and mature. He needed to learn a few things before he was ready to do the work that was needed of him.

    Q. Why didn’t the Lord at least show him where the plates were?
    A. It wasn’t the Lord that told him of the Plates in the first place. The First Vision was for a specific purpose, and that purpose had nothing to do with the plates. It was Isaiah that stated “precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little” (Isaiah 28: 10). To ask why Joseph Smith wasn’t given everything immediately is kind of silly.

    Q. Why did it take years for Moroni to appear and tell him about the plates?
    A. See the answer to the first two questions.

    Q. Why didn’t the angel Moroni tell him and show him exactly where the plates were?
    A. He did. Joseph Smith testified “While he was conversing with me about the plates, the vision was opened to my mind that I could see the place where the plates were deposited, and that so clearly and distinctly that I knew the place again when I visited it.” (JSH 42)

    Q. Why did Moroni just give him the plates right then?
    A. Because the time for them to come forth was not yet right (see JSH 53). Waiting had very little to do with proving his worth. It was for the purpose of instruction and preparation. He had to be prepared before he could undertake the work that he was going to do.

As to angels, no where in the Bible does it make any clear statement as to the origin of Angels. As such, if you are going to go on just the Bible, you can’t prove that men do not become angels.

Let me ask a question. Would consider the Hindus to be wrong in their religion?

    1. Whatever happened to honesty? You never made it clear you were a Mormon in your first comments, as if implying you were not one.
I’m not buying the answers. Again I ask, why would God and Jesus appear to Joseph Smith, and not tell him or give him the plates in the first place? God did not give Moses the ark of the covenant, He told him to make it.
Again, it makes no sense. And we have major issues in that the Bible says both that no man hath seen the Father (John 1:28), and that God is a spirit (John 4:24).
I am not bashing MORMONS, I am questioning their false religion. I am telling you that you have been hoodwinked into believing a false religion. Save yourself WHILE YOU CAN!!! WE are running out of time before the Rapture – I do NOT want you left behind.

I cannot answer for Truthblade, I will answer for myself – yes, I consider Hindu’s to be wrong in their false religion.
