33 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you: 34 And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out. 35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face. 36 Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD. 37 And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant: 38 And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. 39 As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and hereafter also, if ye will not hearken unto me: but pollute ye my holy name no more with your gifts, and with your idols. Ezekiel 20:33-39 (KJV)
Sorry if I’m starting to sound like Jeremiah here, but I’m dumbfounded at how quickly the SBC is running into apostasy. It’s isolated right now, but if it begins spreading rank and file throughout the convention, I’ll have to withdraw.
We’ve got Calvinist pastors and deacons in the SBC. Here’s how it’s working: Someone gets out of seminary, goes on the preaching circuit and starts looking for a church. The church invites him to speak,l ikes him, talks to him. He conceals his Calvinist belief, and gets hired. Within a few months, he begins subtly sneaking in the word “Soveriegn” when talking about God, to pre-condition the church to approve of that word. After getting them indoctrinated into approving of the word “Soveriegn”, he then begins tying it to “grace”. About 12 months or so after that, the church finds itself being torn apart over Calvinism.
And nobody is questioning integrity. Nobody is saying, “There is a deliberate attempt to take over and subvert Biblical Baptist churches to Calvinism!” Nobody is commenting over wolves in the pulpits wering wool suits. A few Biblcally aware voices are shouting, but nobody’s listening. Indeed, the SBC last year passed a resolution saying we need to get alnog with unsaved men who are preaching another gospel, and telling people they must be saved before they can be born again. “Huh?”
The Emergents were running amuck in the convention, and nothing was being done about it. Then Rob Bell decided to quit his church and get a job working on TV. Now the emergents are still out there, but adrift. We should be witnessing to them.
Worldly men are teling us we must be “purpose driven” instead of biblically driven, and godly Pastors who should be analyzing the Purpose Driven materials against the Bible and asking hard questions are not – because by adding those principles to their church they’re having membership booms. And now, at the Great White Throne Judgment, pastors will not be recognizing the 3-5% of their congregation they feared were lost… but 50-70% of their congregations. Why? We stopped addressing sin, but rather started addressing self esteem.
And we filled our churches with tares, goats, unsaved people. Because we stopped preaching about sin.
It’s time for the SBC to clean house. Submit your personal statement of faith, written in clear, plain language. If you believe in anything other than what the Bible teaches, you should be elsewhere.
If you believe anything other than John 3:3, you need to be elsewhere.
If you do not accept John 14:6, you need to be elsewhere.
If you think that the Roman Catholic church teaches the Gospel and the plan of salvation, we need to talk about what you think the plan of salvation IS!
What is WRONG with us? Why have we tolerated this nonsense???
