Correct Doctrine 20

5.5 The Holy Spirit is the agent of the new birth, sealing the believer once and for all (Acts 1:8, Eph. 1:13, 4:30).

5.6 The Holy Spirit guides, teaches, directs, comforts, calls us to service, sanctifies, and grants spiritual gifts to every believer according to their calling (John 14:26, 16:13, 15:26, Eph. 1:7, 4:4, 1 Cor. 6:11, 1 Cor. 12:9, Acts 20:8).

5.7 The Holy Spirit sealed the New Testament Canon in AD 95, and at that time the “sign gifts” of divine healing, speaking in tongues, and prophesying passed away from the earth until after the Rapture, when they (prophesying and miracles) will return after the sealing of the 144,000 to be used by the Two Witnesses Moses and Elijah the Prophet (1 Cor. 13:8, 10-12, Rev. 22:18-19, Jude 1:3, Rev 7:3-8, 11:3-12)

5.8 The Fullness of the Holy Spirit is exhibited today when believers show boldness and zeal when witnessing to unbelievers (Luke 1:67, 12:12, Acts 4:8, 4:29, 4:31, Eph. 3:12).

5.9 The Holy Ghost is given at the moment of salvation; however, we may pray to be filled with the Holy Ghost temporarily to witness boldly. (Acts 4:8, Eph. 4:23)

Part of 5.5 we completed yesterday. However, please read the verses in context. It helps to understand all these important elements of Biblical Doctrine.

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Ephesians 1:13 (KJV)

30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30 (KJV)

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8 (KJV)

Now for the major part of the Holy Spirit,s incredibly busy job… the guiding and instructing of the Believer of God.

7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Ephesians 1:7 (KJV)

4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; Ephesians 4:4 (KJV)

11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11 (KJV)

9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 1 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)

8 And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together. Acts 20:8 (KJV)

The Holy Spirit guides you, instructs you, and if you listen (and we don’t) will often advise you as well.

However, let’s understand one area in which the Holy Spirit no longer does. The Holy Spirit gives certain gifts today. Some of the gifts the Holy Spirit used to give, He no longer gives. Believers used to be able to speak in foreign tongues they did not know, and also used to be able to understand them. Thanks to a self-styled prophet named Frank W. Sandford of Shiloh, Maine who lived at the turn of the 20th century, many believe today those gifts still exist. That was put to the test in the 1930’s by a missionary couple who went to India, after advising the mission board they did not require Language School, as they had the “gift of tongues”. Needless to say, they were embarrassed when they reached India, to find that the tongues they thought they knew – were none of the myriad languages of the country of India.

Other people teach that men speak in “Unknown tongues” today – something the Bible actually spoke against, even in the days when the actual gift still operated. Here’s what the Bible says about Tongues.

8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 1 Corinthians 13:8 (KJV)

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 1 Corinthians 13:10-12 (KJV)

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Revelation 22:18-19 (KJV)

3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Jude 1:3 (KJV) That which is perfect – the Holy Bible – is come. It cannot be as some teach that this refers to the Lord, as He’d already come in the flesh, died, ressurected and ascended to heaven before this gift was given!

The age of miracles has passed us for now. It will return briefly to the Two Witnesses Moses and Elijah during the Tribulation.

3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. 4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. 5 Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. 6 Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. 7 Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. 8 Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand. Revelation 7:3-8 (KJV)

3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. 4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. 5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. 6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. 7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. 8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. 9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. 10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. 11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. 12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. Revelation 11:3-12 (KJV)

I should point out that some believe the 144,000 will also have some of these gifts to a lesser extent during the Tribulation, hence my including that passage here as well. I’m not convinced of it, as I see little in the New Testament to suggest such a thing.

I guess you can say “I told you so” if I’m wrong while we’re in Heaven and we see this with our own eyes!

Apostasy reigns around us, churches are sliding into worldiness, a whitewashed Gospel is preached everywhere... "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. Jeremiah 6:16 (KJV) So, I'm speaking out. ...Why aren't you???
