5 We Believe that the Holy Spirit is Equally God, co-equal with God the Father and God the Son, and is a distinct person of the Holy Trinity (1 John 5:7).
5.1 The Holy Spirit is the representative of God on earth, drawing all men to Jesus Christ. (John 15:16, 1 John 5:6)
5.2 The Holy Spirit is given to every believer at the moment of salvation once and for all (Acts 4:8, 2 Cor. 1:22, Eph. 4:30, Titus 3:5)
5.3 The Holy Spirit directed and moved men in the past to write the Holy Bible, choosing the very words for them (John 14:26, 2 Pet 1:21).
5.4 The Holy Spirit testifies in these modern times only of Jesus Christ, and not of himself (John 15:26, 16:13, Acts 1:8, 2 Cor. 3:3, Eph. 1:17, 1 John 5:6).
Moving on to the Holy Spirit, we understand first of all that the Holy Spirit is a living being, fully God, capable of thought and emotion.
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. 1 John 5:7-8 (KJV)
The Holy Spirit is sentient, and not “Electricity” or “power”.
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. Acts 5:1-4 (KJV)
You cannot lie to electricity. You cannot lie to power. You cannot lie to radiation. You can only lie to someone capable of independent thought, and reasoning.
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. John 15:16 (KJV)
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, Acts 4:8 (KJV)
22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. 2 Corinthians 1:22 (KJV)
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30 (KJV)
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Titus 3:5 (KJV)
These verses are important, as they show that the Holy Spirit marks and seals us unto salvation. Having drawn us unto Christ, the Holy Ghost then permanently seals us once and for all as “Saved”.
The Holy Spirit also had an additional job of communicating the very words and letters of the Bible unto the Apostles.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26 (KJV)
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2 Peter 1:21 (KJV)
The Bible is completed today. There will be no further books of the Bible as it tells us in Jude, “the faith once delivered unto the saints”.
The Holy Spirit, finally, testifies not of Himself, but of Jesus Christ.
26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: John 15:26 (KJV)
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. John 16:13 (KJV)
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8 (KJV)
3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. 2 Corinthians 3:3 (KJV)
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: Ephesians 1:17 (KJV)
6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. 1 John 5:6 (KJV)
It’s odd how some groups speak so little of the Lord Jesus Christ – except to make dramatic pronouncements of how the Lord Jesus came to them and said, “I need you!”. But these same men talk over and over again about the Holy Spirit, as if the role was reversed, that the Lord Jesus was bearing testimony of the Holy Ghost!
As you see from the verses above, it’s actually supposed to be the other way around. I’m not in any way diminishing the role of God. I will say that these men (despite their other erroneous and often blasphemous teachings) have done a great thing by reminding us that the Holy Spirit is God, and we need to be cognizant of the fact that God dwells inside us. Too often we treat the Trinity as a Duo, with a faithful companion. We need to remember that God lives in you, and that engaging in any kind of sinful behavior while God is in you can be grieving to Him.
