No, no we do not. Despite the arguments of the SBC, it neglects the fact that Baptists have been people of the Bible for 2,000 years. Calvinism is only a few centuries old. We don’t HAVE a “Sovereign Grace Heritage”.
Calvinists try to make it sound like they just want equality within the convention. In reality, that doesn’t explain why 9marks and other “Sovereign Grace” ministries are writing pamphlets on how to subvert the SBC?
The SBC stands for the view of salvation of the Bible – “Ye must be born again.” “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH…”
Calvinism turns that around to mean “only the elect”. They insist these verses apply only to those who are predestined.
That’s not how I read my Bible.
Calvinists routinely try to make it sound as if Calvinism is a Baptist doctrine, and non-Calvinist Baptists are somehow wandering off the beaten path.
I can’t disagree more. The Bible speaks constantly of “whosoever will”. The TULIP theology is not a Biblical doctrine, indeed in many cases is the exact OPPOSITE of what the Bible says.
Calvinists are welcome to go get their own Convention. They can indeed call it the SGBC, Sovereign Grace Baptist Convention. Be my guest. But be out of the SBC.
I will examine Calvinism on this blog soon, and will indeed answer them. Soon. In the meantime, I’ve got a lot of other stuff to write on. Stay tuned!
