I just awoke from a horrific series of nightmares about Hell.
I dreamed of nightmarish things that seemed to go on for hours. I woke up, and went back to sleep…
right into the same dream. I woke again, went back to sleep…
…into the same dream. I woke up again, and said, “I’m getting up.”
One of the things we must understand is – we all have a sin nature. We all sin against God. The Pastors Today email newsletter a few weeks back featured “20 myths of Christianity we all believe” (the thing about every article of Pastors Today is always some number, and then some thing Pastors would like to read about, like “25 Great sermon starters”). In this “Myths” article, they challenged the notion that “one sin will send you to Hell forever.”
I’m not going to complicate things, but I’m going to telll you that author was wrong. One sin will send you to Hell forever.
1 And God spake all these words, saying,
- 2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
- 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
- 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
- 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
- 12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
- 13 Thou shalt not kill.
- 14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
- 15 Thou shalt not steal.
- 16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
- 17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s. Exodus 20:1-17 (KJV)
This is the law of God,
4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3:4 (KJV)
I don’t care whether you want to argue fine doctrinal points here (no I’m not a Pelagianist, I’m not a Semi-Pelagianist, or a hexidecimal-Pelagianist). The issue is –
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23 (KJV)
All have sinned. Me, you, everyone.
Last night, I ran across a blog (in my “blogs you might like”) where the author argued against the Godhood of Jesus Christ. He’s worshiping a different Jesus. The Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible is God in human flesh, eternally God. The author of that blog, if he does not repent and get saved (because saved, he is not) – will spend a literal eternity in Hell.
And it’s going to be worse than my dreams. Did I visit Hell in my dreams? Was I granted some mystical visit to Hell in my dreams? No, it was a combination of what I’ve been studying in Seminary, an exposure during the day yesterday to music so evil I was horrified (years ago I would have thought, “Oh yeah! That’s cool!”), David Cloud’s newsletter about a visit to a convent, and my studies in preparation for continued answering of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. I had horrific dreams. They’re pathetic and weak compared to the eternal horror of the real Hell.
A visit to a convent? How is that horrific? The knowledge that these women are convinced they’ll have to endure a few days of Purgatory, then will be brought by Mary to Heaven.
Imagine that horror. You awake after death, shocked and terrified by the scope of the suffering. You endure, thinking, “At least it’s only a few days of this!” The torment is horrendous. After a few minutes, you wonder, “Is this purgatory? I can’t bear the agony, the horror!”
And after a few days, the sinking realization that – no, it’s not Purgatory. There is no Purgatory. this is Hell. And you will be there until the Great White Throne Judgment. After that, Hell itself and all those condemned in it will be cast into the lake of fire, which will be even worse.
I woke from my dream crying out to Jesus Christ. That should be the immediate reaction of every Christian.
Rob “No Hell” Bell wrote his book “Love Wins” where he challenged the existence of Hell, and revealed himself to be a Universalist. Me, I caught his Universalism in “Velvet Elvis”, and I’m sure if you’re interested you can find my blog entry and scathing review of Rob Bell’s books.
Rob Bell will find out someday if there really is a Hell. I hope I’m wrong about Rob Bell! I am perpetually bothered by the staggering statistics of 143,000 people a day entering Hell. That’s horrific. And I’m forever telling my church in my sermons that WE are expected to do something about this.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 (KJV)
Hell is real. The Bible says so. A literal reading of the Bible, comparing Scripture against Scripture, leads to one conclusion alone. Hell is real. I can prove it to you. Do not get saved, and tell me at the Great White Throne Judgment, when I will be a witness but not a defendant, how right I was. Alas, if this is the course of action you choose, you will be a defendant, not a witness. The verdict of every man at the Great White Throne Judgment will be “guilty”, it will just determine the degree of punishment you will experience… for eternity.
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9 (KJV)
The only hope is to repent of your sinful condition and unbelief, and call upon the Lord Jesus Christ.
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 (KJV)
You cannot save yourself. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can save you.
Now, false religions fall into two categories. This is something you must understand.
Those that deny the Lord Jesus Christ and…
Those who preach a different Jesus.
A hallmark characteristic of false religions is those that deny the Godhood of Jesus Christ, and those that deny the Trinity. There are some that seem to uphold the one, in reality denying both at the same time. If you deny the trinity, you are rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ. Hell is assured for you for all eternity unless you repent and get saved.
24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. John 8:24 (KJV)
So much for the blog entry I read last night. That man angrily maintained that Jesus never claimed to be God. That man is drastically wrong. That man, if he does not repent and get saved, will face an eternity far more horrifying than my nightmares. And there will be no waking from it.
If you believe in some other way other than the Lord Jesus Christ, you will not go to heaven. You will not be reincarnated into some higher being. You will not awaken in “paradise”, or whatever false name you call it. You will awaken in Hell. Forever.
If you believe that (read this carefully) God is Jesus, appearing for a time only in that mode, then as God the Holy spirit until the Rapture, then appearing as God the father… you are rejecting the trinity, and there is no hope for you unless you repent. Because you’re believing in one God, but not revealed in three persons. It’s mental juggling, and Unitarianism disguised.
If you believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is one third of the Trinity, eternally God the Son from before the creation of the World, then you will awaken in heaven. Not by your own efforts, but because the Lord came to die for you in the most amazing display of Divine Love imaginable.
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1 (KJV)
Your sins paid for. The book of life now holds your name in permanant ink, and the leger book reads, “Paid in full.” And then God wants to have a believer’s judgment, not to condemn our sins, but to give rewards! What love is THIS, that we unworthy servants and undeserving sinners not only get to be saved from an eternity in Hell, but we get REWARDS too! I am an unworthy servant. I can only but reflect on how unworthy I am.
You need to choose. You have until you die to choose. After that, the choice is made. Forever.
