The Word Faith Movement Examined 18

2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. Deuteronomy 4:2 (KJV)

32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it. Deuteronomy 12:32 (KJV)

5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. Proverbs 30:5-6 (KJV)

8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: 9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. 10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. Luke 12:8-10 (KJV)

22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. 1 John 2:22-23 (KJV)

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Revelation 22:18-19 (KJV)

Much of today’s information comes via Let Us Reason Ministries, Alan Vincent, Deception in The Church, and Banner Ministries. Again, I do not necessarily agree with all of the doctrine or opinions espoused on these websites.
Before I start, let me give a quote from Justin Peters. Peters considers all word faith teachers who teach the Spiritual Death of Jesus doctrine to be denying Christ. He articulates this in these words.

If Jesus ceased to be God even for an instant, He never was God to begin with. Justin Peters A Call To discernment 1:04:00

Now, the quotes…

“Why don’t you examine your baptism of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, and that false ‘trinity’ it’s so-called…” (William Braham, “Revelation Chapter Four #3 (Throne of Mercy and Judgment)” (Voice of GodRecordings, Inc., 1961, audio tape #61-0108, side 2).

“Now my precious brothers – I know this is a tape also. Now don’t get excited. Let me say this with Godly love. The hours approached where I can’t hold still on these things no more… Trinitarianism is of thedevil. I tell you that – Thus saith the Lord.” (William Branham, Footprints on the Sands of Time: The autobiography of William Marrion Branham, Part Two (Jeffersonville, IN: Spoken Word Publications, 1975),606-7.)

“believers baptized by a Trinitarian formula must be rebaptized in the name of Jesus only.” William Branham (Burgess and McGee, Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements, 95-96)

“…not one place in the Bible is trinity ever mentioned…It’s Catholic error and you Protestants bow to it” (William Branham, Conduct, Order, Doctrine Q and A, p. 182)

“Father, Son, and Holy Ghost is offices of one God. He was the Father; He was the Son; He is the Holy Ghost. It’s three offices or three dispensations,…” (William Branham, Conduct, Order, Doctrine Q and A, p. 392).

“This is the key tounderstanding the virgin birth. God’s Word is full of faith and spirit power. God spoke it. God transmitted that image to Mary. She received the image inside of her….The embryo that was in Mary’s womb was nothing more than the Word of God….She conceived the Word of God.” (Charles Capps,Dynamics of Faith and Confession (Tulsa, OK: Harrison House, 1987), 86-87; cf. Charles Capps, Authority in Three Worlds (Tulsa, OK: Harrison House, 1982), 76-85)

“Did you know that from the beginning of time the whole purpose of God was to reproduce Himself?…And when we stand up here, brother, you’re not looking at Morris Cerullo; you’re looking atGod. You’re looking at Jesus” (Morris Cerullo, “The End Time Manifestation of the Sons of God,” Morris Cerullo World Evangelism tape 1).

“You represent all that God is and all that God has…Jesus was the visible expression of God. Jesus was the Son of the Living God. Now, who are you? Sons of God…everyone say it. What is working inside of us is the manifestation. When you look at me, you are looking at Jesus…To see Jesus was to see God. To see me is to see Jesus. Jesus knew who He was. Don’t you think it is about time we know who we are?” (Morris Cerullo, “Joel’s Army,” Cited by Jewel van der Merwe, Discernment Ministries)

God is a “spirit-being with a body, complete with eyes, and eyelids, ears, nostrils, amouth, hands and fingers, and feet.” (Kenneth Copeland ministry letter, 21 July 1977.)

Once again this makes God have more than human qualities but bodily ones. “If you stood Adam upside God, they look just exactly alike….If you stood Jesus and Adam side-by-side, they would look and act and sound exactly alike….The image is that they look just alike, but the likeness is that they act alike and they are alike….All of God’s attributes, all of God’s authority, all of God’s faith, all of God’s ability was invested in that man.” (Kenneth Copeland, Authority of the Believer IV (Fort Worth: Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1987, audiotape #01-0304), side 1)

“Why didn’t Jesus openly proclaim Himself as God during His 33 years on earth? For one single reason. He hadn’t come to earth as God, He’d come as man.” “ Kenneth Copeland,Believer’s Voice of Victory magazine, Aug. 8, 1988. p.8.

“God cannot do anything for you apart or separate from faith,” (Kenneth Copeland, Freedom from Fear (Fort Worth: KCP Publications, 1983)

“How did Jesus then on the cross say, ‘My God.’ Because God was not His Father any more. He took upon Himself the nature of Satan.” (Kenneth Copeland, Believer’s Voice of Victory (television program), TBN, 21 April 1991.)

“Jesus is no longer the only begotten Son of God” (Kenneth Copeland, NOW WE ARE IN CHRIST JESUS (Ft. Worth, TX: Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1980)

Christ “had no innate supernatural powers. He had no ability to perform miracles until after He wasanointed by the Holy Spirit.” (Kenneth Copeland, “Question & Answer,” Believer’s Voice of Victory, August 1988 “You don’t have a god in you, you are one.” Kenneth Copeland, Believer’s Voice of Victory broadcast on TBN, recorded 7/9/87

“Jesus existed only as an image in the heart of God, until such time as the prophets of the Old Testament could positively confess Jesus into existence through their constant prophecies.” (Kenneth Copeland, The Power of the Tongue, pp. 8-10)

“Pray to yourself, because I’m in your self and you’re in My self. We are one Spirit, saith the Lord.” (Kenneth Copeland, “Believer’s Voice of Victory”, Feb. 1987, p.9)

“I say this with all respect so that it don’t upset you too bad, but I say it anyway. When I read in the Bible where he [Jesus] says, ‘I AM,’ I just smile and say, ‘Yes, I AM, too!’” Kenneth Copeland, quoted by Alan Vincent

“And the whole New Testament calls Him the first-born….The word “born” began to ring in my spirit; itjust began to roll around: born, born. I never had let Him go through that in my own thinking….And while I was laying there thinking about these things, the Spirit of God spoke to me. And He said, “Son, realize this: Now follow Me in this, don’t let your tradition trip you up.” He said, “Think this way: A twice-born man whipped Satan in his own domain.” And I threw my Bible down. I said, “What?” He said,”A born-again man defeated Satan. The first-born of many brethren defeated him.” He said, “You are thevery image and the very copy of that one.” I said, “Goodness gracious, sakes alive!” And I began to see what had gone on in there, and I said, “You don’t mean–you couldn’t dare mean, that I could have done the same thing?” He said, “Oh, yeah, if you’d had the knowledge of the Word of God that He did, you could have done the same thing, ’cause you’re a reborn man, too.” (Kenneth Copeland, “What Happenedfrom the Cross to the Throne” tape # 02-0017)

It may not seem like a big thing, what Copeland is saying, but he is claiming the Lord Jesus Christ is a created being. He is also saying the Lord Jesus Christ was not pre-existant. This is a heresy.

“The trinity is of course God the father God the son God the holy Ghost. We have to be careful because religion has us sometime thinking we have three different Gods. You know there’s God here ..hey holy ghost- hey Jesus…its God one God one faith one baptism not three Gods not three faiths not baptism’s everytime you mess up, one. God the father, one God, three functions one and different functions God functioning as a father- God functioning as a son -God functioning as the holy ghost. I am Creflo Dollar I’m a husband to my wife I’m, a father to my children I’m a pastor to gods sheep. Right now I’m not functioning as husband I am not functioning as a father I am functioning as one of the 5 fold ministry gifts to God’s sheep. Same guy other functions you follow me. One God other functions.” (Creflo Dollar, Feb.19, 2001 World Changers program)

(Let Us Reason Ministries comments on this quote, “This is oneness Pentecostalism to a T. Not three co existent persons, but one who functions as three.” See The Trinity Refused or Confused)

“God the father, God the Son, God the Holy Ghost, God three in one. The Holy Ghost is no different than Jesus and Jesus is no different than the Holy Ghost … water you see it… if you take that to a scientists and ask it to analyze that and tell you what it is. He won’t tell you its water he’ll say that’s two parts hydrogen one part oxygen. That’s H2O now if take this and boil it and I capture the steam and I take that to the scientist he won’t say its steam he’ll say its H2O if I take this and put it in the freezer and take it to the same scientist hand it to the scientist say analyze this for me he won’t say that’s ice he’ll say that’s H2O they’re all H2O but they’re different manifestations of the same thing.” (Rod Parsley, Breakthrough 9/19/2000)

“Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” not the lie. If you are a Christian, you are as much Jesus Christ as Jesus Christ is Jesus Christ, because you are a member of the Church, otherwise known as the Body of Christ.” Frederick K. C. Price, Beware! The Lies of Satan, pg. 73

T. D. Jakes – I will give him the benefit of the doubt. There are many quotes of Jakes denying the Trinity. However, after participating in the Emergent Church’s Elephant Room, Jakes has modified his stance on the Trinity. I do not know if he truly has changed his stance, or if he is simply trying to appeal to a larger Christian audience. Current quotes from Jakes still show a Oneness Pentacostal denial of the Trinity, but Jakes is changing his views. I will withhold any verdict until he comes to a final decision.

Kenneth Hagin – “The believer is as much an incarnation of God as Jesus Christ.” quoted by Alan Vincent

“The believer is called Christ…That’s who we are; we’re Christ!” quoted by Alan Vincent

Benny Hinn uttered a famous prophecy, in which he claimed, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, to claim that God Himself was a Trinity, as well as Jesus and the Holy Ghost. “There’s nine of them.” He backed off the prophecy on TBN a few days later after uproar… but ignored the fact it was still in his “Good Morning, Holy Spirit” book. To my knowledge, it still is in his book in the current edition.

“What was the appearance of God the Father? Like that of a man…God has the likenessof fingers and hands and a face.” (Good Morning Holy Spirit, (Benny Hinn, Word, 1991,p. 82)

“What does God the Father look like? Although I’ve never seen Him, I believe – as with the Holy Spirit – He looks like Jesus looked on earth.” (Benny Hinn, Good Morning HolySpirit, (Word, 1991) p.87)

“God the father and the Holy Spirit look just like Jesus did on earth (God morning Holy Spirit 1st ed. P.87,140)

“I am a ‘little messiah’ walking the earth” Benniy Hinn, “Praise-a-thon” broadcast on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (November 6, 1990)

“The new creation is created after God in righteousness and true holiness. The new man is after God, like God, godlike, complete in Jesus Christ…May I say it like this: ‘You are a little god on earth running around’?” Benniy Hinn, “Praise-a-thon” broadcast on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (November 12, 1990)

Odd that people criticize Hinn for saying it, but nobody takes Finis J. Dake to task for writing essentially the same thing in the ’60’s, in his Dake’s Annotated Study Bible.

God is not 437 feet tall, weighing 4000 pounds, and got a fist big as this room. He’s big, but He’s not a monster. He measured out heaven with a nine-inch span…The distance between my thumb and my finger is not quite nine inches. So, I know He’s bigger than me…But He’s not some great big, old thing that couldn’t come through the door…I don’t serve The Glob. I serve God, and I’ve been created in His image and in His likeness.” Jerry Savelle, Quoted by Alan Vincent

“You create the presence of Jesus with your mouth … He is bound by your lips and by your words … Remember that Christ is depending upon you and your spoken word to release His presence.” (Paul Yonggi Cho, The Fourth Dimension, Volume One (So. Plainfield, NJ: Bridge Publishing, 1979), 83)

Apostasy reigns around us, churches are sliding into worldiness, a whitewashed Gospel is preached everywhere...
