One of the things I’ve realized is that it’s not enough to decry false teachings… What good does it do the average baby Christian if they are being told what’s WRONG, but not what’s right???
So, I’m starting an additional new series within the blog, Correct Doctrine. Consider this a way to learn what’s right. This feature is not to replace doctrinal instruction at your local church. Rather, it will serve to educate you until you can find a good church.
On the Way Of Life website, David Cloud has some VERY good teachings on finding a good church. On his page on “What if there’s no good church?”, he examines several options.
- start your own church. However, Brother Cloud correctly points out that such men are called of God. And if you are not called of God to do so – and have not been Biblically mentored and trained – you end up in the same situation of the blind leading the blind. Both will fall in the ditch, Scripture promises.
- be prepared to relocate. This one is difficult. It requires a new job and a new home. Not always an option.
- Be prepared to drive long distances to a good church. If such a church is available, you have to decide if it’s feasible for you.
- start a church and look for a trained pastor. Contact a pastor at a good church too far from you and enlist their help to find you a pastor. You may find (to your surprise) that pastor has a pastoral candidate he’s been training for… well, he doesn’t know what – he’s just obeying the Lord.
Those are your options. The one option that is not feasible is – go it alone. This option is unBiblical. You cannot go it alone. The “house church” movement is patently unBiblical, as nothing in Scripture defines the Father as the Pastor, but rather shows the Pastorate as a divine institution. A great deal of emphasis is given upon Paul training up Apollos, Timothy, Titus, and others for the pastorate. Paul didn’t just plant churches, he also trained men for the ministry.
You see? already we’ve refuted a false teaching that’s beginning to prevail today, the “home church” movement – and taught a couple of essential doctrines. Each article will have more essential doctrines as we proceed.
