I am sure Mr. Dawkins is flattered in that so many Christians spend so much time refuting him.
I would disregard him as irrelevant – except he spearheads the aggressive New Atheism. Dawkins has apparently stated as a goal… the utter eradication of Christianity as a religion.
His unspoken goal is the substitution of Evolution as a state religion of all countries on the earth.
Yet recently Dawkins has shown the incredible honesty and integrity to make a slight retraction. He is no longer an Atheist – he is an Agnostic.
Well, I guess that’s bound to happen when Ray Comfort‘s your friend.
I suspect what happened is, Richard Dawkins decided to start investigating the claims of Theists. He analyzed some of the evidence and like Anthony Flew before him, found enough compelling evidence that he had to retract his stand from “absolutely NO!” to, “There may be… I’m not sure.”
I suggest Richard Dawkins continue this examination. I suggest he consider taking the stand of, “I will follow the evidence wherever it leads.”
He will discover that not only is there no evidence for Evolution but many diverging theories (Alien Seeding, Geologic Column, Birth on Crystals, Warm Little Pond, Warm Ocean Soup, Abrupt Appearance, Etc.), not only is there no evidence for Anthropology (Piltdown Man, Homo Africanus/Lucy, etc.), but that there is compelling evidence for Theism/Deism.
Once you have reached that, Mr. Dawkins will have to examine the proofs for every religion. To my knowledge everyone who has researched religions without a priorii argument (a preconceived conclusion that one of them is correct and you merely look for confirmation) comes to the same conclusion:
The tomb in Jerusalem is evidence, and Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead. And that there is more than sufficient evidence for Christianity.
I give it 5 years if he embarks on this search. If not…
pray for Richard Dawkins.
UPDATE June 2014: Dawkins now considers himself a “Social Christian.” Won’t be long now…
